THANKS FOR THANKSGIVING

You think Thanksgiving is spiffy

You think Thanksgiving is great

But you’re not the one on the platter

You’re not the one on the plate

Last year I slipped into a doorway

Last year I made an escape

It was a lucky year for me

But not for my best friend named Nate

Usually I’m happy go lucky

Living with barely a care

This time of year I just can’t be

It makes me be sternly aware.

For me the greatest thanksgiving

Is if I’m around the next day

I’m nothing but a fly
Sitting on the wall
Able to get all around
Not seen cause I’m small

As soon as something happens
I will be right there
No one even noticed me
No one said "don’t stare"

One day when I was sitting
Waiting for my cue
Suddenly she swatted me
Just before I flew

Now I quit my evesdrop
Wish I never did
Or at least I’d make sure
To be better hid

Whats that endless clucking
It would drive me mad
Everywhere I look this place
They sure do like to gab

Lined up by the dozens
Working where they lay
Arguing amongst themselves
Charged each with foul play

That’s but half the trouble
That’s but half the truth
When they get together
It’s hard to rule the roost

Hardly think it’s worth it
It’s too much to pay
Staying up the whole night long
First one up each day

You might think it’s easy
You might think it’s great
You’ve but half the picture
I bet you have one mate

Showing off my feathers
Strut around this place
Taking all my vitamins
Plan for just in case

A rooster’s life ain’t easy
Not for everyone
It sure does keep me busy
My work is never done.

Fortunes won’t carry

Might that was once

Too soon abates

Take care to carry

On wings of a gift

Lift out of the mire

Don’t tarry, be swift

There is a forever

It lasts for all time

A day lasts an instant

And this is a sign

Don’t take for granted

What’s held in the hand

Time soon will change things
